We are in the process of making lots of changes at Blessings in Baskets.

In this day, who has not in some way been touched by cancer? It seems to be everywhere!

When we first started Blessings in Baskets it was with the intent of providing a way for people to tell cancer survivors, “we care, and we are here for you!” We also want to provide a way for people to let caregivers know that “we see the sacrifices you are making, and we are grateful for you!”

Somehow we got off track for awhile. We got into weddings and babies. Fun and cute, but not our original intention. We then branched into the realm of providing gifts for the elderly. This is an important area — but again, we were losing focus.

Now we are back on track.

Many of the gifts we offer are appropriate for people who have not been touched by cancer. Some are also appropriate for the elderly. But our focus is on cancer survivors and caregivers. The children’s gifts are “quiet time” gifts and are appropriate for cancer survivors as well as for children who have siblings or a parent with cancer. The children who are healthy but who have cancer in the family have special needs. They, too, are part of the cancer story!

We hope you will be pleased with our new — or rather, renewed — focus on cancer survivors and caregivers, and that you will visit us often.

Isn’t a new year wonderful? We always have the opportunity to change and grow, but turning over a new year helps us to at least think about turning over a new leaf. Or a lot of new leaves. (Or in some cases, an entire branch!)

At Blessings in Baskets we have made changes, and there are Read the rest of this entry »

Christmas is almost upon us. Lots to think about, lots of decisions to make! Some special gifts for you to consider are:

Scrapbooking Kit gives you a way to chronicle your own special journey though life. A fun, easy start for the beginning scrapbooker, a quick way for the more experienced to make a special scrapbook.

A Circle Journey offers you a way to take it a step beyond regular communication with someone special while creating a treasure.

Special spa products offer ways to relax after a tiring day, ways to pamper yourself or someone in your life. (For people who are allergic to scents we offer a line of wonderful unscented bath products.)

Candles - oh, my! Lean back and enjoy the peaceful aroma of a soy candle. There is something about gently scented candles that is soooo relaxing! (For those of you who do not prefer or who cannot have lighted candles, we offer lovely electric tart burners.)

Prayer Journals are another favorite. A terrific help for the new Christian, a different way of organizing your prayer life for the more mature Christian.

Come see what other gifts we have for you! Blessings for a peaceful and joy-filled Christmas!

Christmas in July — What a fun idea! When I was an adolescent camper, Christmas in July was a carefully guarded secret. Seasoned campers knew it would come but never knew when. To the newbies it was a total surprise. There was a huge Christmas party, and Santa gave out gifts to all the campers. Read the rest of this entry »

My husband and I are presently visiting his family in Ireland. Now, I don’t know about your families, but I do know without a doubt that I have the world’s best in-laws. I married into an incredible family, and I thank God for each and every one of them.

Today I look out of the window and watch the sheep grazing on the brilliant green grass. In the distance I can see the same mountains we used to see from our own window when we lived here, only we were on the other side of them. It has been a bit Read the rest of this entry »

Fashions come and go and come again. Some things never completely leave the scene. Consider, for example, the poncho. Not the handy but impractical rain poncho, but rather the soft, comfy poncho that you slip on when the evening is cool or when the air conditioning is turned too high in church. Even the most fashionable lady in our church owns and wears a poncho.Soft, light ponchos so comfy on a cool night when you might find a sweater too binding, when you just need a whisper of warmth as you sit on the patio or porch. In the south, Read the rest of this entry »

In the hurried bustle of Internet shopping, do you miss the friendly “old store” feeling? We used to have a store where we sold upscale handcrafts: fine blown glass, polished woods, excellent pottery, exception jewelry, even a music section where we sold finely crafted instruments. People would come to shop and stop to chat. Read the rest of this entry »
